Human messengers (Angels),
Demons - Fallen Angels

Part 2
Author: BJ Isaacs

Remember that a messenger, an Angel can be a human being. Please turn in your Bibles to the book of Luke 7:24. In this passage we read, "And when the messengers of John were departed". The word "Messengers" in this passage is the same Greek word as that which is translated "Angels." In the book of Matthew 13:41 where we read, "The Son of Man shall send forth his Angels". But an Angels can also be evil demons, one of the fallen angels that followed Satan in rebellion against God. In the book of Revelation 12:9 where we read; "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil and Satan, who deceiveth the whole world; he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." So then in this passage we see that the Devil has angels. If you do not understand this broader concept of the word angel, it becomes easy to make the mistake of the Jehovah Witnesses who believe that Jesus is a created Angel. In the Old Testament, there is an angel called "The Angel of the Lord. "Many Bible scholars say that this is an appearance of God, the Son before He became a man. One more note on the broader meaning of the word "Angel" before we begin our in-depth look at them. The word"Evangelist" when broken apart will show that men can be said to be angels when the meaning of messenger is used. The word "Evangelist" is the word "Ev-angel-ist." Angel is the word that is in the middle of evangelist. Evangelist means the messenger of good news or the angel of good news.

Today, I do not want to look at human messengers nor ever at the demonic ones. I do not even want to look at "The Angel of the Lord." That would be a study in itself. I want to take a look at those beings that we normally think of when we say the word "Angel."

A Physical Description of Angels

In the holy Bible there are given some descriptions of Angels:
1. The book of Colossians 1:16 "All angels with the exception of the Angel of the Lord are created beings."
2. Angels normally live in the unseen world and cannot be seen by the natural human eye unless the Lord opens our eyes to see them. 2 Kings 6:8-17
3. We as humans can be made to see them while they remain invisible to those around us. In 2 Kings 8:8-17, Elisha could see them but to his servant they were invisible. When Elisha prayed for his servant to see them, God opened his eyes. After that Elisha and his servant could see them but the earthly army that had come to capture Elisha could not see the "Chariots of fire."
